About Me

Lacation Consultant

Since 2018, I’ve been helping my clients to overcome some difficulties and doubts regarding breastfeeding. My aim is to provide the guidance and resources needed to understand the root cause of your issues and develop a plan that works for you. As a certified Lactation Consultant, I undertook further training with The Tongue Tie Institute to identify oral restrictions at an early stage that can affect breastfeeding and possible issues in childhood.
I have also a degree in Speech Language Pathology that brings me the knowledge of head and neck anatomy and physiology.

Lactation Services

While breastfeeding comes easily to some mums and babies, many others need extra help. Mothers often have questions and concerns about breastfeeding. You want what's best for your baby. I can help you minimise the challenges that come with breastfeeding and reduce the stress allowing more time to enjoy motherhood with your baby.

A baby who won't latch

Early difficulties don’t have to mean the end of breastfeeding! Let's find out why this is happening and turn it around in the most natural and comfortable way for both of you.

Sore/damaged nipples

The most common cause of nipple trauma is not having a deep enough attachment of the baby to the breast.

Let's work together towards a correct latch and rule out any infection like nipple thrush, abraded skin or nipple vasospasm.

Breast engorgement

A few days after your baby’s birth your breasts are swollen, rock-hard and painful and your little one finds it impossible to latch on. I can teach you how to minimise engorgement and avoid further complications such as mastitis.

Blocked milk duct

Sometimes you can experience a sore lump in your breast, it’s probably a blocked milk duct. Let me explain you why it happens and how to unclog them  before a plugged duct becomes mastitis.

Mastitis

Is a painful infection of the breast that can lead to serious complications.

Always seek medical advice if your breasts are inflamed, red and sore, or you start to feel unwell.

I can educate you to not have recurrent infections and to identify the early signs of it.

Concerns about supply

The most common question during a breastfeeding consultation is "How do I know if my baby is getting enough"?

I will educate you in how to maintain a good supply and what to observe for in your little one's day to day.

Breast refusal

This does not have a simple answer but what I won't do is force your baby. My natural approach and recommendations will guide you and your little one towards a spontaneous latch that will fill your heart with happiness and joy.

Tongue & lip tie assessment

I can support families who suspect their baby is tongue tied. I'm trained with the Tongue Tie institute to perform an accurate oral assessment and refer to local tongue tie clinic if need be.

Antenatal care

As I meet mothers with my work I keep hearing them repeatedly say ‘Nobody told me’ when they reflect on their breastfeeding experiences.

I would like to offer expecting mothers a listening ear and a space to share their concerns and intentions with regards to breastfeeding.

We can also try to hand express some colostrum if mum wants to be extra prepared.

It's good to talk

Sometimes you just want to be reassured about your baby's behaviour - such as feeding very frequently or being fussy at the breast - especially if you are a first-time mum. The important thing to remember is that, although it can be tiring at first, with the right preparation and support, breastfeeding can be a joyful journey.

Family Feedback

After visiting three different lactation consultants the answer was always the same: ‘your baby is too weak, your nipples are too short, you can’t do it without nipple shields’. Maria was caring and professional.
In two weeks' time Lola went from refusing to being close to my breast to latching properly. We built milk supply and worked on my engorgement. We are very thankful and can’t recommend her enough!

Leire mum of Lola

My partner struggled with breastfeeding. We tried spoon feeding, cup feeding and bottles but our baby wouldn’t put on weight and was dehydrated.
Maria taught us how to train Lola by expressing breast milk and feeding her with a little syringe while sucking a finger. Not long after, my partner was fully breastfeeding.

Curt dad of Lola

Maria is truly a knowledgeable, experienced, kind and compassionate health professional. During our consultation, she really took the time to listen to my concerns and provided practical solutions that were suitable to my circumstances. Maria is also very generous with her time by following up with me post consultation and providing on-going support. She is kind, caring and warm in her approach to what was a very sensitive subject for me. We’ll be forever grateful for your guidance in those early days.
